Between 1978 and 1992, the American Palestine Educational Foundation, later renamed The Jerusalem Fund for Education and Community Development, distributed scholarships to Palestinian university students in Israel, the West Bank, and abroad. These scholarships, almost 8,000 in all, provided more than $4 million to Palestinian students.

In 1999, The Jerusalem Fund reintroduced a limited scholarship program for Palestinian citizens of Israel. The scholarship program aims to preserve Palestinian culture and heritage within Israel.

Once awarded, scholarships are dispensed in two installments. The second installment is conditional on satisfactory academic achievement during the first term of study.

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be:

  • Palestinian citizens of Israel
  • Enrolled full-time in a Palestinian or Israeli university
  • Graduate students pursuing degrees in the social sciences

Scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Academic merit
  • Financial need
  • Relevance of study or research topic to the ongoing development of Palestinian society within Israel

Application deadline: October 15

Scholarships are administered through our Scholarship Committee liaison in Israel. For more information and application forms, please write to the following address:
