1 Sources: 1986 data are taken from Palestine Statistical Abstract No. 7, 1985/1986 (Damascus: Palestine Liberation Organization, Economic Department-Central Bureau of Statistics); 1990/91-2000 data on Palestinians in regions other than historic Palestine and the Arab states are based on current estimates in the public domain and the press. The rest of the data are based on Palestinian Projections for the 16 Countries/Areas of the World, 1990 to 2010 (Washington, DC: U.S. Bureau of the Census, Center for International Research, not dated), p. 57, Table 2. Beginning with 1991, the 300,000 Palestinians expelled from Kuwait were added to the estimated Palestinian population of Jordan and pro-rated accordingly in the projections.

2 According to Palestinian sources, the Gaza population in 1992 is estimated to be 714,800, Report prepared for the National Health Plan Commission for Jerusalem (Planning and Research Center, July 1992).

3 In all likelihood, this figure given in the Palestine Statistical Abstract is a low estimate. The 1990/91 figure of 450,000 was used as the basis for calculating the number of the Palestinians in the Rest of the World for 1995 and 2000.
